The Dommy Mummy Speaks: Building a Team and Balancing Life as a Content Creator

Jessica / Char Borley Season 4 Episode 1

Char Borley, known as the "Dommy Mummy" in the industry and a Playboy CoverGirl with decades of experience, opens up about the darker side of content creation in today's digital landscape. When we caught up with her at XBiz Miami, she didn't hold back about the shocking reality many creators face today.

"I got scammed out of $168,000," Char reveals, describing her ongoing legal battle against a company that stole her content and is using it across their platforms without permission. What started as a six-figure theft has escalated into a million-dollar lawsuit as they've appropriated her entire brand and identity. Her experience highlights why content protection has become absolutely critical for creators, especially as AI technology makes content theft increasingly sophisticated and widespread.

The conversation takes a deep dive into the deceptive world of AI-generated profiles, with Char emphasizing that while the artificial images might look impressive, customers ultimately want authentic connections with real people. She warns about the dangerous new trend of companies slipping clauses into contracts allowing them to create AI versions of performers without additional compensation. "You have to take really care if you are signing some contracts now," she cautions, recommending specialized legal representation from industry experts who understand these evolving challenges.

For aspiring creators, Char offers invaluable insights on building a sustainable career. She manages a team of 15 people, emphasizing that outsourcing is essential to prevent burnout while maintaining a consistent online presence. From finding trustworthy assistants to navigating the increasingly restrictive social media landscape, her practical advice comes from years of trial and error. "Burnout is a real thing," she emphasizes, describing her approach of alternating between periods of intense activity and deliberate rest where her team takes over operations.

Speaker 1:

Welcome to a new episode of the Sisters in Cash podcast. We are right now in Miami at the X-Biz. This podcast is featured by legal fans and 4Based, so today I found a really beautiful guest. Tell me a little bit, who are you?

Speaker 2:

My name is Char Borley, so I'm known as a dummy mummy in the industry. I'm a Playboy CoverGirl, fhm. I've done loads and loads of different covers for different magazines. I do lots of things for OnlyFans. Loads of different covers for different magazines. I do lots of things for OnlyFans. Loads of platforms TV presenting. I do coaching and training. I do anything you want me to do?

Speaker 1:

oh my god, that sounds amazing. So anything?

Speaker 2:

anything. What do you want? Tell me what you want and I'll deliver. Oh god, okay okay, how?

Speaker 1:

how many years are you right now in the industry?

Speaker 2:

Oh my God, I've been in the industry since the year 2000. Yeah, a long time.

Speaker 1:

Okay, this is a really long time. Okay, I have some questions, because I was in a panel today about social media was amazing. What is your favorite social media platform?

Speaker 2:

I would say oh, that's a difficult one. So I'm very popular on instagram, but I find instagram very difficult. What was shadowbanned and having to basically just make sure you're always watching what you're posting? And then, with the ai, they've got in place right now you have to be careful what you're saying to people. It is so crazy. Yes, it's insane. Like you can't even say to, like I couldn't even message you and say, oh my god, you look hot, you look sexy, anything like that. Now the, the AI, is actually picking it up. So you really do have to be careful with what you say. I know.

Speaker 1:

I know um this brings me to a really cool topic. Um you know, there are some models. They create a lot of ai profiles yes so, and they don't mark this at um ai content. No, they don't, but it looks amazing, honestly, but it's very deceptive though. Yes, yes, what do you think the customers do they prefer the real models or the ai version models?

Speaker 2:

okay. So I think that's a difficult one, because I know that the guys actually prefer real models absolutely 100. But when you get a girl that's actually posting something that's ai and it's not actually really them, it's very deceptive. So I think you need to be true to yourself, because that's what sells. They want a real person. They don't want a bot. They don't want something that's AI. In my opinion.

Speaker 1:

Also not if it's cheaper. No, I mean cheaper in kind of on a platform.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I mean it's like you need to have transparency with that as well, because, like I've actually had some accounts actually set up pretending to be me AI, nothing to do with me at all and I'm losing money from that.

Speaker 1:

I know, I know it's insane. I know, I know, I know. You know, yeah, that's why we also have a content protection service here. Yes, legal fans.

Speaker 2:

Oh, I know everything about legal fans.

Speaker 1:

Really.

Speaker 2:

Yes, yes, yes, I do. I've known you guys for a long time actually. Yes, oh, really yes we're doing business together already.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, guys, just to explain a bit. So in times of AI, it's so important to protect your content. So also about deep fakes, about also social media fakes. So a lot of duplicates of a model. They scan by the face, the content, keywords, whatever, and, for example, I had an AI service before they only was searching by keywords and I have tons of leaks. It was in the internet. I lost a lot of money.

Speaker 2:

It's crazy. Yeah, it really is. Yeah.

Speaker 1:

And I told them, hey, I'm protected. They told me, jessie, you are not protected. And I say what they're? No, let's do a free scan. Yeah, and I have done the free scan. There was tons of leaks Also, tiktok lives. I was going what Everything.

Speaker 2:

Everything to TikTok lives. I was going what, Everything, Everything. They will literally take everything and steal it and make it their own and they'll put it all over everywhere and you have no control over any of it whatsoever. So what you guys do with the whole scanning, it was completely new to me. I didn't realize. I mean, I had a leak protection service, but it wasn't until I used the service with legal fans that I was actually blown away by the extent of how much fake was out there.

Speaker 2:

It was crazy right goosebumps right now, because I was absolutely shocked yeah, yeah, also the good thing is I.

Speaker 1:

I will see in the dashboard what is leaked. Will I take it down or not?

Speaker 2:

so I think you get the choice as well. I like that.

Speaker 1:

I like it. I like it's so transparent, um, but whatever, and let's be at the ai thing again. So I saw a lot of companies who just use ai versions um of the models and make money with it, and the models don't know it and don't get paid for it.

Speaker 2:

That's really creepy.

Speaker 1:

I had also a conversation with lydia black in prague, but also at a convention in prague, and she also told me hey, the really big companies, if you sign a contract, yeah, to film some scenes, now you have in the contract that they will do some ice stuff of it and they don't tell you about it.

Speaker 2:

Yes, it's crazy, they don't tell you yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that's not fair, that's not right normally you have to get paid also about the ai stuff.

Speaker 2:

You know it's oh no, that's just taking the piss.

Speaker 2:

Now you have, you have to take really care if you are assigned some contracts now, because yeah, I have someone that always looks over my contract, so I will look over it, and I've dealt with contracts for a really long time, so I understand it. But even though I've been doing it for this long, I always still get someone else just to double check it, because you need to make sure you do that, because otherwise you're going to get scammed left, right and center. Now I will tell you I had a company last year. This happened to me this time last year I got scammed out of 168 000. Yeah, seriously, that happens. Last year and I currently have a lawsuit out because they've stolen all of my content. They're using it on the front page of all of their sites right now and I have got no money for that whatsoever.

Speaker 2:

So I'm currently in a legal bad store because of stolen content.

Speaker 1:

Yes, that's why you need always a good lawyer, and legal fans are actually helping me.

Speaker 2:

Really, yes, legal fans are actually the guys helping me with this.

Speaker 1:

Shout out to legal fans. So it's really important to have a really good lawyer, like, for example, corey Silverstein. So shout out to him yes, because he's also really familiar with the AI thing.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, which I wasn't. It's something new and I know a little bit but it's growing so quickly.

Speaker 1:

Also, the lawyers didn't know anything about it.

Speaker 2:

No, my current one didn't know anything about it. So now I have a bit of a team and the legal friends are actually helping me with my attorney and they're actually joining forces because this lawsuit now has become 168,000 that they owe me, but because my brand has been going for a long time. It's their exploitation and it's fraud.

Speaker 1:

There's so many different accounts on this level we're going for about a million.

Speaker 2:

We're chasing a million. They've taken my name, they've taken my brand. It's insane. Yeah, I have a very big lawsuit going on right now yes, this is so crazy.

Speaker 1:

So, girls, protect your content.

Speaker 2:

If you create content, protect your content protect your content, protect your brands, apps yeah, I can't stress that enough.

Speaker 1:

Be safe, yeah, yeah okay, okay, okay, um so, um. What is your favorite platform again to um, get some um so, for example, telegram or x or instagram. What are you using?

Speaker 2:

tracking links. Yes, I have a team that does that for me. I'm not gonna lie. So you're really smart, I'm not dealing with that, I have a tech support team and they control and they look after everything and it's very transparent. So I will get like a spreadsheet every single month and we can see where everything has all come from.

Speaker 1:

I love it yeah, can I ask you how big is your team?

Speaker 1:

um, I have about 15 people yeah, this is nice because a lot of girls also like me. I haven't set up a team yet, but I really have because I'm this side of the industry. I'm started to create the pot two years ago, I'm a creator and there's a lot of stuff going on and yet, yeah, I'm just using tracking links, but I track it myself, so shout out to get all my links. I use his service because it's not about the protection shawl for Instagram, it's about they have a really nice dashboard to track everything. I love it. I'm not working with him, but I love his service.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, if you love something, you want to promote it even more, because it helps you as well.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, absolutely, yeah, yeah yeah. Okay, so you know how important tracking links are yes, I'm sorry it's so hot. Yes, it is so hot in here so um you know how important tracking links are. So what's your platform? You? You will get the most traffic from um, I would definitely say is instagram.

Speaker 2:

I do get most of my traffic from instagram but like it's really hard because the shadow bands and everything, so it's constantly just having to make sure that you're posting the right content at the right time and you're just being careful, like with the ai, they pick up the skin and the nudity.

Speaker 2:

So I I'm going more towards doing more very, very, very safe for work stuff, but it still works if you but you know, if you post more, if you have everything safe on x, you get much more reach I've tried x and I'm trying to make that a bit bigger, but I don't have as big a following on that as Instagram, so I am trying to hone in on that a lot more Like I found Reddit was quite good at one point, but there's been a lot of big shift there as well in the last three months. There's been something internally happening Also with AI.

Speaker 1:

It is because I was using. No, it's down to AI again.

Speaker 2:

It is because I was using no.

Speaker 1:

It's down to AI again. Yeah.

Speaker 2:

So Reddit have been having problems with AI. I don't know the technical details behind it, but I know AI has been a problem with Reddit and our conversion rate has gone down probably about 35% because of it.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I didn't know it, so it's really interesting. Yeah, are you using also Telegram?

Speaker 2:

I do Telegram. I have an assistant who does that for me. Yes, yes, I love it. I love.

Speaker 1:

When you started to create, how you started to create a team. What was the starting point?

Speaker 2:

So I started as a glamour model and doing TV stuff back in the year 2000. And then we had OnlyFans launch and when it launched, launched I kind of knew the owner, so I was like one of the first ones on there and I wish I took it more seriously, because back then it was like, oh, I'm not sure about this. It's really weird online stuff content I should have knuckled down a lot more because I could have done a lot better. But, um, yeah, I just fell into it and then I did the only fans and then I branched out to some other platforms with Kinky. Now I love Kinky.

Speaker 1:

Kinky is so good. The team is also amazing.

Speaker 2:

Yes, I mean the team's amazing, but they're also one of the fairest platforms I've ever worked with, because let's just say, you've got like I've got a big team. Let's just say I want to pay my chatter or my agency, the program will actually do that for you. So the platform will actually give them the split and you don't need to worry about sending it to them, which is also a very good thing for your taxes. So instead of me having all the money and then I'm paying my staff, they do it for me. So it's not going into my account, so it's helping move my taxes and it's really been beneficial financially, just for that reason it helping move my taxes, and it's really been beneficial financially.

Speaker 1:

just for that reason, it is yes, definitely okay. Um, um, so, but you, so me as a creator, for example what will you say? Um, how should I start to create a team? So where I will find good team members? What should do, um, my first assistant, my second assistant? So just the models now, how I can build a team for my content creation.

Speaker 2:

So basically I started building a team because I was going to all these, like we're here now at Express. I actually met an agency at one of these and then it didn't work out. I must have met the first time. But from that I made another connection who became my assistant, who I still have now. I think I've had her for about nine years. And then you have to just outsource and it is difficult. But there are agencies out there that are very good, but getting assistants are hard. I'm not going to lie. It's taken me a long time. You have to kind of pick. It's a hard one to explain.

Speaker 1:

I really can relate because when I I was thinking to get someone for my podcast stuff, my social media podcast stuff, to get someone to organize my content, yeah, so I have an old school friend who does that for me.

Speaker 2:

No, yeah, she's a single mom. She's at home and I basically trained her for a long, long, long, long time and she's one of my chatters, but she also helps organize my vault, my content. She'll post them for me and then, from having her, she trained someone else for me. So, yeah, you need to have someone you can trust as well, because it is difficult to have someone and who helps you with the contracts for your assistance.

Speaker 1:

yeah, we yeah, but you have a special lawyer for this. Yes, it's also a team member.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah, absolutely. I actually believe that there's actually a lawyer here somewhere. He's also my lawyer as well. I think he's called OnlyFirm. I didn't know him right now, yeah, onlyfirm. So it's Only then. F-i-r-m. Very, very didn't know him right now, yeah, only firm. So it's only then f-i-r-m. Very, very good. Can't rate him enough, and he's also the one that's helping me with this great big lawsuit.

Speaker 2:

Really nice he's amazing, he's amazing okay, that's also good to know for the girls. Yeah, yeah, he's very, very good. I'd highly recommend him because he's a specialist in this industry.

Speaker 1:

Really nice, yes okay, um, another point. So because you have so much experience, this is so interesting. Let's pick up like here so okay, if a girl is on a convention, like, for example, as a model, what should she do to connect with other people at some conferences, like experts?

Speaker 2:

just simply talk to people when you attend one of these events. Don't be shy, go up, introduce yourself and you want to just tell them what you're currently doing and what you aspire to do and then just by talking and just getting to know these networks and all these connections, it will help you. And even if it doesn't help you now or today, you might. You might go back and you've got that card or they might reach out to you and it's just always really, really good to be here and just to simply connect. You never know who you're going to meet and what business opportunity you can actually have at one of these events To be offensive and connect with other people.

Speaker 2:

I can't rate networking enough, because if you want to build a team and you want to excel in anything, you always need to outsource. You always, always, always need to have help.

Speaker 1:

All the time. Yes, it's like this. Okay, um, can you tell us a little bit more about um some maybe how you handle family stuff, so private life and um it can be difficult to keep it all separate.

Speaker 2:

it can be, but I've learned now how to separate it. So I mean I'm a mother. I do have a daughter.

Speaker 1:

You don't have to tell us this no, that's fine, it's fine.

Speaker 2:

Everybody knows I'm a mummy, so it's absolutely fine. I'm known as a dummy mummy online anyway, but I am actually a mother. I like to keep things separate as much as possible, but I'm very transparent with what I do. She's very aware, she's very proud, she finds it very empowering.

Speaker 1:

She was here. She was here she was here with me.

Speaker 2:

She was backstage videos, um you know she's she's very, very supportive, um she's also a team member, so about yeah, kind of she's done a lot of um, assisting with me, not social media, but just taking pictures coming along and she checks in on me. So if she was here with me now social media, but just taking pictures coming along and she checks in on me so if she was here with me now she'd be like mom, have you had a drink?

Speaker 1:

do you need water? Do you need food?

Speaker 2:

look after yourself, so sometimes she's the mom oh yeah, this is so cute.

Speaker 1:

Um, how you handle your time per day, how you organize, organize your day so. So, for example, do you have, for example, a 9 to 5 job and after it's just family, or how you handle everything, no, so I literally like.

Speaker 2:

it's been hard to get me to sit down today, hasn't it?

Speaker 1:

I know, I know it was so hard.

Speaker 2:

So I'm one of these people where I'm like 100 miles an hour and then I take a long break. I have to. So I'll be doing this and we've got this going on. I've got content that I have to shoot later. I have costumes that I have to film, I have another interview to do. So I'm 100 miles an hour, but when I get home I will take a week and then I'll have my assistant, my team, they'll take over everything and I can just chill out because I can't rate downtime enough. You need to rest. Burnout is a real thing, I know, I know. Burnout is insanely. I totally know. Yes, you need to look after yourself. You need to look after your mental health.

Speaker 1:

You need to look after your physical health that's also why I told my hobby today, so don't stress out let the other people stress yes, let everyone else stress but because if you stress, it don't help you in your business. Chill out, relax, make your deals, relax, work with your head.

Speaker 2:

You know and relax. Yes, you need to. I mean, I've had exhaustion probably about three times, like literally laid up in bed so exhausted, absolutely completely done so to have a team and to just like appreciate your time and your time is valuable as well, it is, it's valuable it is your time.

Speaker 1:

Is money at the end of the day? Yeah, it is it is so you need to be at your best so you can earn that money okay girls if you like, if you like to learn from her where the girls can find you, please give us all your social media.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely, you can find me on instagram. I'm charbawley um. I'm charbawley on x um. I'm also part of the team as well at kinky. I also work as a consultant with them as well, so if you ever need any help, with onboarding yes, I am yes, good train help.

Speaker 2:

I want girls to excel in what they do and to be on a fair platform where they can get paid equally. So, like, one of the big things with Kinky in particular that really enticed me to join is I mean, I don't do collabs, I'm solo. However, I know so many girls that like say, you and me, we did a collab. Yes, come on, let's do a collab, let's do it. Well, let's just say that you've got a million followers, but I've only got, like, say, 200,000. Yeah, so we're going to do it so that you've got 80%, I get 20% split and the platform will split that evenly and it's fairly.

Speaker 1:

I know it's really nice about it. You don't have to worry, it's really nice about it.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, exactly, I know, I know, and you can go on there and you can sell anything they have a shop online, like Lowell told me yesterday about the shop, so maybe I have to start there. You need to get on there. You need to start putting your panties on there.

Speaker 1:

Panties sell. Well, I will do for sure For Lowell. I will sign up, okay, okay, thank you so much for your time. I'm so happy that you made it today to the podcast. I will let you know if I will release it and I hope you will have a really successful existence.

Speaker 2:

Oh, thank you. Anytime you want me, I'm here for you, honey.

Speaker 1:

Yes, thank you so much Bye-bye.
